Who Is: Kira Lynn Cain, by Michael James McGonigal

"It's remarkable how often Cain's music gets compared to the films of David Lynch. The comparison works: her salacious and nuanced music derives at least part of its imagery from the power of noir (among the "top friends" on her MySpace page are Surrealist kingpin Andre Breton and the uncompromising filmmakers Alejandro Jodorowsky and Luis Buñuel). Cain gets called a chanteuse an awful lot, but it would be more accurate to call her a postmodern torch singer. Her lyrics are far smarter, her arrangements strangely sexier than most anything to have emerged from the lounge or chamber-pop genres."
